You may have just realized that http://www.hootmag.org no longer directs you to the blog. A few minutes ago, Hoot launched its new website, designed by the talented (and very patient) David Hu (SEAS ‘13).
Take a look around the new website, and tell us what you think! You can still reach the blog at http://blog.hootmag.org. Enjoy your summer, and check back often!

While Hoot was cramming studying for final exams, we happened to receive our print copies of the Spring/Summer 2010 issue! They are marvelously glossy, durable, and small enough to hide behind our textbooks in class. Thank you so much to CUarts, the Cooperberg family, and the Duan family for funding our first issue! Interested in advertising with us in the future? Email us at advertise@hootmag.org!
Even though we’re on summer vacation, we’ve begun working on our next issue. If you’re interested in joining Hoot, send us an email at info@hootmag.org. We have a lot of positions open, and we’re willing to train! Also, keep an eye out for our new website!

Walking into this corner store boutique is like sneaking into a conglomeration of the closets of several famous designers, and perhaps even a few famous cross dressers. Here you can find beautifully crafted blouses, slick biker jackets, mini-skirts, beautiful gowns, sundresses, and other rare finds that line the racks and walls. Everything in the store is one-of-a-kind, you won’t see it again on the racks and you might never see it again period. Allan and Suzi can boast designer items alongside their rare and retro looks, such as this beautiful Christian Lacroix dress…

…as well as some finds from various decades. Allan and Suzi have also had a hand in dressing an impressive list of stars. The shop owners refer to the stores as “The Home of Retro Fashion”, a perfect description. I managed to pick up a gorgeous black dress from the 40s, with subtle sequin detailing along the sides (Sorry, as I said, there was only one in the store!).

There are certainly some more daring outfit choices, such as an animal print one-piece with some seriously risqué cut outs, which are fun to see. Most of the styles are wearable, and a great price for their rarity and condition. Also, if you’re lucky enough to have those feet that seem to magically fit into every pair of shoes, there is a great selection of flashy boots and heels.
This is the perfect place to pop in to try on some looks for fun, or to seriously shop for that ideal item to top off an outfit, so get there! Allan and Suzi is located at 416 Amsterdam Ave., at 80th street. So close for us Columbians!
